Tips on taking good photographs Picture quality Use the appropriate picture quality. The camera hasseveral picture quality modes. Use the highestsetting to make sure that the camera produces thebest picture quality available. Note however, thatbetter picture quality requires more storage space. 68 For multimedia message (MMS) and e-mailattachments it may be necessary to use the smallest picture quality mode optimised for MMS sending. You can define the quality in the camera settings. See "Still image camera settings," p. 71. Background Use a simple background. For portraits and otherpictures with people, avoid having your subject infront of a cluttered, complex background that maydistract attention from the subject. Move thecamera, or the subject, when these conditionscannot be met. Move the camera closer to the objectto take clearer portraits. Depth When shooting landscapes and sceneries, adddepth to your pictures by placing objects in theforeground. If the foreground object is too close tothe camera, it may be blurred. Lighting conditions Changing the source, amount, and direction of lightcan change photographs dramatically. Here aresome typical lighting conditions: . Light source behind the subject. Avoid placingyour subject in front of a strong light source. Ifthe light source is behind the subject or visible inthe display, the resulting picture may have weakcontrast, may be too dark, and may containunwanted light effects. . Sidelit subject. Strong side light gives a dramaticeffect but may be too harsh, resulting in toomuch contrast. . Light source in front of the subject. Harshsunlight may cause the subjects to squint theireyes. The contrast may also be too high. . Optimal lighting is found in situations wherethere is plenty of diffused, soft light available, forexample, on a bright, partially cloudy day or ona sunny day in the shadow of trees. Gallery Positioning (GPS) Positioning (GPS) About GPS The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwideradio navigation system that includes 24 satellitesand their ground stations that monitor theoperation of the satellites. Your device has aninternal GPS receiver. A GPS terminal receives low-power radio signalsfrom the satellites and measures the travel time of the signals. From the travel time, the GPS receivercan calculate its location to the accuracy of meters. The coordinates in the GPS are expressed in degreesand decimal degrees format using the internationalWGS-84 coordinate system. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is operated bythe government of the United States, which is solelyresponsible for its accuracy and maintenance. Theaccuracy of location data can be affected byadjustments to GPS satellites made by the UnitedStates government and is subject to change withthe United States Department of Defense civil GPSpolicy and the Federal Radionavigation Plan. Accuracy can also be affected by poor satellite 86 geometry. Availability and quality of GPS signalsmay be affected by your location, buildings, natural obstacles, and weather conditions. The GPS receiver should only be used outdoors to allow reception of GPS signals. Any GPS should not be used for precise location measurement, and you should never rely solely on location data from the GPS receiver and cellular radio networks for positioning or navigation. Your device also supports Assisted GPS (A-GPS). Assisted GPS (A-GPS) is used to retrieve assistance data over a packet data connection, which assists in calculating the coordinates of your current location when your device is receiving signals from satellites. A-GPS is a network service. Your device is preconfigured to use the Nokia A-GPS service, if no service provider specific A-GPS settings are available. CERTIFICATION INFORMATION (SAR) This mobile device meets guidelines forexposure to radio waves. Your mobile device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed not to exceed the limits forexposure to radio waves recommended byinternational guidelines. These guidelines weredeveloped by the independent scientificorganization ICNIRP and include safety marginsdesigned to assure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure guidelines for mobile devices employa unit of measurement known as the SpecificAbsorption Rate or SAR. The SAR limit stated in theICNIRP guidelines is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue. Tests for SAR areconducted using standard operating positions withthe device transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. The actualSAR level of an operating device can be below themaximum value because the device is designed touse only the power required to reach the network. That amount changes depending on a number offactors such as how close you are to a network basestation. The highest SAR value under the ICNIRPguidelines for use of the device at the ear is 0.47 W/ kg. Use of device accessories and enhancements mayresult in different SAR values. SAR values may varydepending on national reporting and testingrequirements and the network band. Additional SARinformation may be provided under productinformation at www.nokia.com.
